Choose a payment. See the whole cost.

A payment is just one part of the decision. The breakdown includes cash down, taxes, applicable fees and financing charges without counting your down payment twice.

Try a different term, then check the total interest and schedule. For a loan, an extra amount per payment shows how much sooner the balance could reach zero.

A lease ends differently.

Lease payments cover depreciation and financing charges. The residual remains at the end. It is shown separately as an optional buyout, with estimated tax, rather than included in the regular payments.

Use the rate format and payment timing from your quote. General tax presets do not cover every vehicle, exemption or provincial rule.

A few useful answers

How are loan payments and interest calculated?

The calculator uses a nominal annual rate divided by 12, 26 or 52 for regular monthly, bi-weekly or weekly payments. Each schedule row rounds interest and payments to cents. The final payment clears the remaining balance, so it can differ slightly from a regular payment.

How does the lease calculation work?

Annual interest discounts the monthly payments and residual at the quoted rate, using payments at the beginning or end of the month. Money factor uses monthly depreciation plus a rent charge based on the adjusted lease amount and residual. Choose the method in your quote; the two methods are not interchangeable.

What is included in cash due at signing?

For a loan, it is your down payment plus any taxes and fees you choose to pay upfront. For a lease, it includes cash down, tax on that down payment, upfront fees, and the first monthly payment if it is due at the beginning of the month. That first payment is counted only once in total cash.

How do trade-ins and Canadian taxes work here?

Loan tax is estimated on the vehicle price after an eligible personal trade-in, plus taxable dealer fees. An outstanding trade-in loan increases the amount financed but does not reduce the trade-in tax allowance. Lease estimates support a paid-off personal trade-in and tax the lease payments and cash down payment. Confirm the treatment for your transaction. See the CRA motor vehicle tax guide.

Does the lease total include buying the vehicle?

No. Total cash over the lease excludes the optional buyout, refundable deposits and end-of-lease charges such as excess kilometres, wear or disposition fees. The buyout is displayed separately. A loan and a lease do not leave you with the same ownership position.

Can I save the schedule or use the calculator privately?

Yes. Download the full payment schedule as a CSV file, including a summary of your estimate. Your inputs are calculated in your browser and are not sent to Postiqo. Our free VIN decoder can help you check vehicle specifications.
